Description
Due to the high numbers of platypus found in their pristine rivers and streams, the Bombala region is known as Platypus Country. The Platypus Reserve is located 4.2 kilometres from Bombala on the Delegate Road, and is an ideal spot to see platypus. Early morning or late afternoon are the best times to see platypus. Look for a V shape in the water
The raised platform makes viewing easy for all age groups. Platypus can stay underwater for up to 14 minutes, but more commonly they will only remain under for between 60 to 90 seconds, so be patient and quiet when you are viewing this national treasure.
The on-site information board provides you with comprehensive details about the platypus.
The reserve is a great spot to sit and enjoy lunch or simply soak up the peace and quiet. Picnic tables are provided and there are two bird hides to allow you to really experience the bird life.
NO CAMPING OR OVERNIGHT PARKING.

Well set up viewing platform, picnic tables etc. Saw 1 platypus and signs of 2nd swimming but at a distance & with binoculars. Next time will stay longer than 15 minutes, for sure. Patience is a virtue :-) Picnic area could benefit from some weeding. Charming spot.

Stopped for 30 min between 1.30 and 2pm - not the best time - but got clear sight of one and saw another in the distance. Worth the detour.

Very lucky to see a platypus and in the middle of the day.
