As said by others. The road is sealed and has potholes for about 30..35 km between 100km to 140km from Barkly Homestead. After that, heading north, it is totally smooth with frequent shift from single lane to double lane and back to single lane. The landscape can't be described in words. Go and experience it. Heartbreak hotel is a fabulous place to rest for a night or two.

That was an interesting 375klm , we towed our 20ft caravan from heartbreak hotel caravan park to Barkly homestead took us approx 5hrs , the road overall was not as bad as we had expected, single road most of the way , towards the Berkeley end we started experiencing a lot of pot holes but just drive to the conditions, our speed was about 90klm most of the way. Worth doing just to experience the remote ness

Mostly single bitumen road with sharp edges and drop offs. Some stretches with deep ruts from road trains, huge pot holes and uneven 'porpoising' (wavy) in places. No service for duration of road. Still heaps better than dirt but drive with care.
