Description

This camp is a 30 minute drive south of Cairns. It has a strict maximum stay of 3 nights. Facilities include a dump point, toilets and coin-operated hot showers. No power or water is available. A local ranger checks vehicals daily and may issue fines or evictions for breaking site rules. No fires. Dogs must be on a leash at all times and dog faeces picked up and disposed of suitably. You must not dispose of your waste gray water or washing up water onto the ground. Do not litter. Generators may be used between 8am and 8pm. No loud music after 10pm. Kid Zone 10km speed limit. There is an area of grass on the lower level under the large trees for campervans and tents. Caravans are to use the concreted pads on the upper level. Do not camp on walkways or roads, even if you arrive late at night. Secure belongings as theft is common in this area. Caravans, motorhomes and pop top campers must enter from the turnoff south of the Desmond Trannore Bridge. This is due to 2.2m hight limitation if you turn off on the Northern side of the river. Swimming is not recommended as Saltwater Crocodiles are found in this area. Also be mindful of dogs swimming in the river water. Flash flooding occurs here. The camp can be closed without notice during the wet season. If you hear a siren at any time of day or night please evacuate immediately. FLASH FLOODING can occur within 2 hours of the siren. All campers are advised to subscribe to Council Disaster Dashboard to receive emergency information. The large trees in this location host bat colonies during the summer. Be aware of injured or baby bats. Do not touch dead or alive bats.
