Description

Moreton Island provides a variety of coastal camping experiences, some accessible by 4WD, others accessible by boat or close to barge landing points. A vehicle access permit is required to drive on Moreton Island. Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site at all times. All camping permits must be obtained before you arrive on the island (there is no self-registration on site) North-west camping zone covers beach camp sites between Ben-Ewa and Comboyuro Point campgrounds. Sites vary in size and range from secluded sites to close, social camping areas. Many sites have sea views and shade. This camping zone offers sheltered bay waters. The camping zone can be reached on foot and by 4WD only. Parking is available beside camp sites. It is accessible for camper trailers. A maximum of 76 sites are available, all marked with totems. Seasonal closures mean that not all sites will be full all year round. Camp sites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car, camper trailers and large groups. Only camp within the camp site footprint. For camp sites surrounded by a timber fence (sites CB1 to CB21), ensure all camping and other equipment is located inside this area. There are no facilities. The camping zone offers sheltered bay waters. For hygiene purposes, campers who are planning an extended stay should bring a portable toilet. Please do not place contents into toilets provided on the island-it destroys the bacteria in the systems. All portable toilet waste must be removed from the island. Open fires are allowed (in existing fire sites only), except when fire bans or prohibitions apply. Fuel or gas stoves, rather than open fires, are recommended. Collecting firewood on the island is prohibited. Bring your own firewood or purchase it at barge departure points or the Bulwer General Store. Chainsaws are prohibited in the national park, but an axe may be brought to split your own wood. Cut kindling from your firewood; do not collect twigs and branches from the bush. Generator use is permitted. Be considerate; use them between 8.00 am and 7.00 pm only. Pets are not permitted.
