Wharf - Camp 25 Burketown

Campground

Description

The wharf is a largely flat and open area just 7km from town on bitumen road. Guttapercha and mangroves are the predominate vegetation with several waterways defining the area. Truganini Creek forms the northern boundary to the site, with also Norman Gully, Chinawall and the Albert River bounding the other extremities of the site. The Wharf facilities include concrete boat launching facilities, council toilets and wheelchair accessible pontoon. The wharf itself proves a popular fishing spot and some of the fringing mangroves provide a feed of the odd mud crab for those willing to give it a try. The tower on the end of the wharf provides information to produce the town's tide chart and a remote camera linked to Burke Shire Council's website. Camping permits are required and fees apply. A Camping Permit allows for staying overnight at the designated recreation areas on Gangalidda Garawa Country, whilst ensuring that landowners conditions and requirements are met. A maximum of 7 nights can be booked at the same campsite. Permit allows access to and fish in the Gangalidda - Garawa country. Permit holders must leave the Gangalidda - Garawa country by 8pm.
