You'll get picked up from your Cairns, Palm Cove and Northern Beaches accommodations, jumping onboard the custom-built air-conditioned 4WD vehicle. Then, travelling west, you'll ascend the McAllister Ranges, keeping an eye out for different species of bush animals, including emus, wedge-tail eagles, squatter pigeons, kangaroos and frilled neck lizards. The day's first stop is for a little caffeine hit at the Skybury Coffee Plantation in Mareeba. Enjoy morning tea of scones, jam and cream, and tropical fruit while enjoying a hot, fresh brew and stunning views from the balcony. Next up is a private local ranger-guided Chillagoe-Mungana Caves National Park tour. Explore the explore Donna, Trezkinn and Royal Arch caves limestone labyrinths that are a portal to a lost world just like the Great Barrier Reef. Then, at the Chillagoe Smelter Ruins, delve into the history of the Chillagoe copper smelters, whose old chimneys dominate the western horizon. After lunch, the tour will visit Balancing Rock for an iconic photo opportunity, see Aboriginal Rock Art and learn about some Dreamtime stories. Lastly, as the group heads back into Cairns, stop at Granite Gorge to get up close and personal with the local rock wallabies.
