Hobart Road, Youngtown, Queensland.
Description
You will find Kerry Lodge Bridge, which crosses Jinglers Creek, about 9 km south of Launceston.
It is also known as Strathroy Bridge & Jinglers Creek Bridge. It is a lovely stone bridge built in 1835 by convict labour. It is thought to be the earliest major bridge on the Midlands Highway.
It consists of bluestone masonry with a single barrel vault that is reasonably high, where it crosses the high banks of Jinglers Creek. Jinglers Creek is named after an outlaw who made the creek his headquarters.
In 2012, Strathroy Bridge was added to the Tasmanian Heritage Register.
It's worth stopping if you are passing through. You will need to be on Hobart Road (the Old Midland Hwy).
