Description

Otherwise beautiful beach whose shape and orientation is such that it traps amazing quantities of jetsam and flotsam from the world's oceans. Long thought to be the site of a 'mystery wreck', investigations by the WA Maritime Museum revealed Mystery Beach is a natural wreck trap, capturing jetsam and flotsam. There are no facilities at Mystery Bay but it is a fascinating place to fossick along the beach and marvel at the amount of refuse humans discard into the worlds oceans, and the vast distances this rubbish is able to travel on the ocean currents. You can get to this site by: Four-wheel drive Pets are not permitted. By prior arrangement, Dirk Hartog Island is accessible from March to October by a privately operated barge from Steep Point on which you can bring your four-wheel-drive. Most visitors camp overnight at Steep Point before leaving on the barge for the island. You need a high clearance four-wheel-drive to explore the island. No camping or overnight parking.
