This is the departure point for The Summit Trail to the top of Mount Augustus. There are toilets and picnic tables for visitors, and a number of trail options. Flintstone Rock Trail This short walk leads to Flintstone Rock, a large slab that bridges the rocky creek bed. You can crawl under the rock to view Aboriginal engravings. Distance: 500m return Time: Allow 15-30 minutes Difficulty: Class 3 Summit Trail The summit of Mount Augustus has extensive views over the surrounding plain, river systems and distant ranges. Getting to the summit is a long and strenuous walk, ascending over 650m on an uneven and sometimes steep gradient. An early start is recommended. Walkers must be well prepared and advise someone of their plans. More challenging options for the first half of the climb are to take the Gully Trail until it joins the Summit Trail at either 1.5km or later at 3km. Distance: 12km return Time: Allow 5-8 hours Difficulty: Class 4 Gully Trail The trail leads up a rocky gully in two 1.5km, Class 5 sections. The first has a gentle gradient, the second is steep and is hard going. Junctions with the the first half of the Summit Trail at 1.5km and 3km enable alternative, more challenging options for the climb to the summit and also for shorter loop walks. Walk up the gully for either 1.5km or 3km before either continuing to the summit or returning to the car park via the Summit Trail. Distance: 6km return or 12 km return to the summit Time: Allow 3-5 hours or 5-9 hours if going to the summit. Difficulty: Class 5
